Before each shift, a competent person should inspect the scaffold: check that base plates and mud sills are firm and level, all cross-braces and pins are installed, and planking is fully decked with no gaps.
Guardrails are required on platforms 10 feet or higher, and fall protection rules apply. Confirm guardrails, mid-rails, and toe boards are in place before anyone climbs.
Keep the scaffold at least 10 feet from energized power lines, and never exceed the rated load. When in doubt, stop and re-inspect.
